Custom Groups

When you drop files onto Permute (onto the main window, Dock icon, or use the open dialog, etc.), by default, it will sort the files into 3 predefined groups - video, audio and images. Additionally, you can create new groups when you drag files into the window or in the options in the open dialog (see Overview for more information).

The groups allow you to set up different sets of files, use different preset on each group, change per-group options, etc.

Custom groups allow you to define your own groups with predefined settings so that you don’t have to keep setting the same settings over and over again. For example, if you commonly need to rotate the video, you can create a new group in Preferences > Custom Groups, call it 90º CCW and set the transformation to 90º Counterclockwise.

The next time you drag files into the main window, the overlay will contain the custom group (as will the pop up button in the Open dialog). When you drag the files onto it, the group will be set up the way you’ve set it up in Preferences, and will add the files.
